Ā
Providing essential items to individuals and families facing hardship across the Black Country and surrounding areas. Today, it supports people experiencing homelessness, financial difficulty, domestic abuse, and social isolationāoffering practical help with a personal touch.
Ā
š We celebrated 9 Years of Leslieās Care Packages - 24 August 2016 ā 24 August 2025
What began as one act of kindness in Leslieās name grew into a grassroots movement of compassionāreaching across the Black Country and beyond. For nine years, Leslieās Care Packages quietly and powerfully delivered hope to those facing hardship. From warm coats and toiletries to birthday gifts and travel passes, each package offered more than essentialsāit was a reminder that someone cared.
This milestone stood as a tribute to every donor, volunteer, and supporter who walked alongside founder Vi Wood. Powered entirely by community generosity, Leslieās Care Packages made kindness visibleāone act, one package, one story at a time.Ā As the initiative stepped into its 10th year, the message remained clear: There was a place for everyone in this story. This milestone belonged to all of us.
Why I Started Leslieās Care Packages
I lost my husband Leslie on the 1st of April 2016 to cancer. That day changed everything. He was my soulmate, my safe place, and losing him left me broken I needed a reason to keep goingāa purpose that could carry his kindness forward and give my grief somewhere to go. So I started Leslieās Care Package in August 2016. It began with one simple act: putting together essentialsāfood, toiletries, warm clothingāand delivering them to people who needed support. I did it in Leslieās name, from my front room, with love and heartbreak in equal measure. Since then, itās grown into a grassroots movement. We now deliver across Stourbridge, the Black Country, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, and surrounding areas.
We support not only the homeless, but also women and men escaping domestic violence, elderly people, individuals and families in crisis, and even NHS staff during the pandemic. Every package is given with dignity, compassion, and the belief that no one should feel forgotten. Leslieās Care Packages is still completely volunteer-led. We donāt have regular fundingābut we have heart, creativity, and a community that cares. I miss him every single day. But through this work, I feel him beside me.
In every smile. In every thank-you. In every act of kindness.
Every donation received represents a moment of kindness, a gesture of hope, and a shared belief in dignity for all. Whether itās Ā£2 or Ā£200, each gift helps us deliver care packages. We operate without fundingāevery care package, every moment of support is powered by donations and the kindness of those who believe in our mission. Referrals from trusted professionals help ensure support reaches those who need it most.Ā Supporters are invited to donate items,Ā or help spread the word. Each care package is tailored to real needs and may include: š„« Food and supermarket vouchers
š§¼ Toiletries and hygiene itemsĀ š§£ Warm clothing and beddingĀ š Birthday gifts and festive treats
š§ø Toys, baby items, and school supplies š¾ Pet foodĀ š Travel support and utility top-ups
A Glimpse into GenerosityĀ
Here youāll find a glimpse of some of the donations weāve receivedāeach one a quiet act of kindness, a thoughtful gesture, and a powerful reminder of what community can do. These contributions were generously given by individuals, families, and professionals who believe in dignity, compassion, and care. Every item was thoughtfully purchased, often with someone specific in mind, and lovingly delivered to those who need them most. From nourishing food parcels and essential toiletries to gift vouchers, seasonal treats, and comforting extrasāeach donation tells a story. A story of someone choosing to help. A story of hope offered without judgment. A story of connection, even between strangers. Some were dropped off quietly. Others came with hugs, tears, or shared memories of Leslie. All were received with gratitude. As we continue to grow, weāll be adding more photos to this spaceāhonouring every act of generosity and showing the real impact of your kindness. Whether youāve given once or often, whether youāve shared a tin of soup or a bundle of essentials, youāre part of this story
